Biogas Production Under Different Inoculum to Palm Oil Mill Effluent Ratio

Palm oil mill effluent (POME) is a wastewater generated from palm industries that rich with organic and nutrients which can becomes an excellent substrate for biogas production. A comprehensive study was carried out to the effect of different ratio inoculum POME In addition, removal efficiencies biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical (COD), ammoniacal nitrogen (AN), total (TN) suspended solid (TSS), volatile (VSS) were also evaluated. Bio-methane potential (BMP) used by manipulating temperature HRT set 28-32 °C 30 days. The BMPs operated under at 20:80, 30:70 40:60. Highest cumulative yield obtained 1990 mL in BMP containing (inoculum:substrate) followed 40:60 1055 20:80 345 mL. Maximum TSS VSS efficiency 27% 55%, recorded respectively, while 23% 12% 8% 51% respectively. TN high 79% removal. Removal COD 54% BOD seen highest BMP. Lastly, AN managed be removed about 95% results this indicated od enhance production quality prior discharge environment.
